What is the difference between a traumatic injury and occupational disease?
Under the Defense Base Act, there’s two types of injuries. Traumatic injury, which is more of an acute injury similar to a broken leg, rotator cuff tear, something like that. An occupational disease is more specific to your occupation and it typically occurs over time. An example is asbestos under the Longshore Act after working on the ships, or PTSD under the Defense Base Act.
